The Old Pond,
A Frog Jumps In:
Plop!

Hello, I’m Lee! A self-proclaimed speculator and anarcho-capitalist with a passion for financial freedom, privacy and wealth preservation (so that you can pass it onto your kids).

I started this blog back in 2011 to write about my journey of learning to trade the financial markets without much money. This eventually led me into spread betting and all the entries on this blog between 2011 – 2013 are about this.

Those Who Know Trading Do Not Speak of Trading

In addition to my trading, I was also burying my head in Taoist philosophy and martial arts as a means to cope with what I felt was the oppressive nature of the 9 to 5 ‘rat race’.

One of the tenets of Taoist philosophy is that ‘those who know do not speak‘, meaning that you cannot speak of things that require direct experience to know.

I took this rather literally at the time and stopped blogging entirely in 2013 as I began to feel that my thoughts and writings here weren’t adding value to you and were more about me. I never wanted that and I don’t want it now.

So I let the blog stand for 6 years as a record of my trading journey in the hopes it would help and inspire others who stumbled across it.

In the background, however, I continued to trade the financial markets and study Taoist philosophy.

Returning to Trade On The Front Line

In 2019, through experiences in my own life, I became acutely aware of the urgent need for men (Dads specifically) aged between 25 – 45 to find a way out of the rat race and take back some control.

For instance, did you know that the biggest killer of males aged 45 and under in the UK is suicide?

It’s a horrifying story of mental health and financial slavery that has been bubbling beneath the surface of our society for too long and although I don’t have the answer, I wanted to share everything that I could to try and help you avoid the trap and trade your way to financial freedom.

The only way I felt I could help was to put aside my fear of speaking out and return to the front line.

As an introvert by nature, this is not easy for me to do but I know that by sharing the experiences I’ve built up over the last decade, I can contribute to helping you achieve financial freedom beyond the ‘system’.

About My Trading Style

My trading style is unconventional and heavily influenced by my personal appetite for risk, my belief in trading intuition and my practice of martial arts and Taoist philosophy.

That means that I don’t have a traditional ‘system’. In fact, I have a Do Nothing Spread Betting System, and I trade entirely by following price action.

I never read, watch or listen to any market news or commentary and I minimise my exposure to bullshit (news, analysts, forecasts, tipsters and experts).

  • My original goal in 2012 was to compound £500 starting capital at 30% per month over a period of 36 months. In June 2013, I had managed to turn £500 into £7500.
  • In June 2013, I decided to give up my day job to try my hand at speculating instead.
  • In 2018, I made £25,101 tax free profits from spreadbetting

It is April 2020 now and I have not yet reached the point of absolute financial freedom, but I’m getting closer every day.

Follow along as I share everything I can to build wealth, minimise taxes and leave it all to my children when I’m gone.
